The Centre for African Studies does not have its own library as of yet, but many books from African authors or about Africa can be found in the Jan Palach Library in the main building of the Faculty of Arts, Jan Palach Square 2. The link to the catalogue can be found here.
Many books about the topic of slavery and African culture in the New World can be found in the Sporck Palace Library. Recently, a collection of publications by Richard and Sally Price dedicated to the descendants of rebel slaves (maroons) in Surinam and the Caribbean has been added to the library’s fund. On the occasion of the “Slavery, Religion and Enlightenment” conference taking place, the Prices have gifted the FF UK Library a collection of their books. This collection will be catalogued and then made available for anyone who is interested in Afro-American culture, especially about the topic of the descendants of rebel slaves (maroons) in Surinam and the Caribbean. These books will be stored in the Sporck Palace Library.
Those interested in musicology will appreciate the Library of Department of Musicology FA CU which houses dozens of publications about various musical cultures of Africa, including collection of historical or ethnographic recordings which are difficult to access.
